GenAI experimentation
Projects, pilots, assistants and publications through which the VU Education Lab explores generative AI in education.
About this collection
The VU Education Lab explores generative AI through several tracks at once: small assistants for staff tasks, apps or simulations for students, and broader pilots, workshops and publications in which the learning question is still open.
This collection brings those tracks together. Each page says what the thing is, who built it, where it runs and what to watch out for, as well as what the lab is testing with it. It shows what is already live as well as what is still exploratory, so the portfolio reflects both working products and the wider programme around them.
Use the filters to move between apps and assistants on the one hand and the broader explorations on the other. Where it lives shows at a glance what you can try here straight away. The assistants themselves are at Ask EduBase.
AI avatar for communication training
A speaking avatar students hold a conversation with to see how they come across. A third-party product rather than a chatbot: it opens in its own tab.
AI Literacy Companion
A running publication for students and staff, showing that the lab also turns its GenAI explorations into durable reference material.
AI-readiness assessment
A fourteen-question conversation that measures how ready a student is to use generative AI, with stars along the way and a report at the end.
Assistant for course manuals
A design assistant that works from topic, kind of teaching and study load to a complete first draft of a course manual.
Assistant for exam questions
An assistant that summarises pasted course material and then turns it into exam questions of the type and level you ask for.
Assistant for interactive teaching formats
An assistant that suggests teaching formats from the topic, group size, room and time available, and writes them out step by step.
Assistant for teaching problems
A conversational assistant that walks teaching staff through common teaching and assessment problems and then hands back three directions to solve them.
GenAI classes for staff development
Worked-out workshops with which the Education Lab has colleagues practise with Copilot, prompting, objections and responsible use.
Interactive patient history
A simulated patient to practise taking a history with: the student is the doctor, the bot is Charlie, and only at the end does it show whether the right questions were asked.
Study coach for students
A chatbot that helps students study more effectively: asks what is not working, then offers two or three things to try this week.
